Your portable spa or pool filter is a critical element in the function and longevity of the system. A filter or cartridge filter as they are commonly known is used to pick up smaller particles and stop debris entering the pool or spas main pumping system. If this filter becomes clogged it removes its ability to effectively filter the water through the system and will allow sometimes potentially hazardous particles to stay in the water contaminating the ph levels of the spa. We recommend cleaning the filter every 2 to 3 months or once a month in heavy periods of use. The filter will be held in a cylinder container or sleeve and held in place by screw or clip in motion, refer to your user manual for how to remove the filter correctly.
Once removed, clear any debris from the holding area and give the filter a good clean. The main filter will comprise of a pleated white material that is easily hosed off and cleaned with a light brush to remove anything that could stop the flow of the water. If the white filter area has broken down at all, it’s time to replace your filter. Always turn your spa power off before investigating any mechanical parts or cleaning or replacing your filter. This is not only for your safety, but also to make sure the spa or pool isn’t in the middle of a cleaning cycle while maintenance is taking place. If this happens it could potentially destroy other components of the spa so always ensure all power to the unit is switched off.
